China's Globalization in Shanghai

A Program Focusing on China's Step into the Modern Business World.
This program provides students a general foundation in Chinese language and modern Chinese history, while targeting the specific areas of business, politics and international relations through specialized coursework and activities. Internships are available to all students.

Beijing Chinese Studies

A Unique Combination of Chinese Language and Areas Studies for All Students. CET's Beijing Chinese Studies program allows students with varying backgrounds in Chinese language and studies to delve into China according to their own interests. In addition to taking language classes, students take area studies courses and attend faculty-led field trips in Beijing and beyond.

Beijing Chinese Language

Intensive Chinese for All Students, Offered All Year Round.
In operation since 1982, this intensive language program capitalizes on Beijing's vibrant learning environment. The curriculum challenges students with one-on-one and one-on-two classes, language practica and a full-time Chinese language pledge. Students and their roommates participate in innovative, off-the-beaten-path activities that further enhance the learning experience.

The January Term in Beijing

Four-Week Intensive Program for Intermediate and Advanced Learners. The four-week program emphasizes pragmatic competence, thereby providing students the foundation they need for further language study in China. Many students use Janterm as a springboard to another CET program during the spring term. All students live with Chinese roommates and participate in a full-time Chinese language pledge.

Hangzhou Summer Immersion

Six-Week Intensive Immersion Program for Graduates, Professionals and Serious Undergraduates. Designed to meet the needs of graduate and professional students, this intensive program emphasizes not only general proficiency but also competency in areas of specific interest to the student, such as business, law, history, etc. Students may opt to live with a Chinese roommate, and all students participate in a full-time Chinese language pledge.

Harbin Chinese Language

The Intensive Language and Independent Research Program for Advanced Learners. Student-designed independent study classes, one-on-two drill instruction, small group classes and a research track for qualified students comprise an individualized curriculum ideal for graduate students and undergraduates with research interests. All students live with Chinese roommates and abide by a Chinese-only language pledge.

C.V. Starr-Middlebury School in China: Hangzhou, Beijing and Kunming
